- The team could go no higher in the All-Filipino, winning only three games in 10 outings, better than the 2-8 card of Presto and Alaska, the first time Ginebra got eliminated in two successive conferences since Big J became the team's playing coach.
- A balik-import return in the Third Conference, with 1988 Best Import Jamie Waller back with Ginebras, as they were allowed to have an import standing 6"4 as the handicapping rule for being eliminated twice, with the rest of the teams having a 6"1 import, Ginebra was 3-win, 1-loss when they lost in succession, during out-of-town games in Bacolod to Seven-Up, and Iloilo to Swift on October 10 where Tony Harris recorded 105 points in Swift' 151-147 win. Trouble started brewing on the Ginebra camp regarding import Jamie Waller's attitude, but rumors were quickly dispelled as Waller led Ginebra to the semifinals with back-to-back wins over Alaska, 118-115 on October 25 and Shell, 112-101 on October 27, when Shell import Kelvin Upshaw was kick out and banned by the PBA for failing a drug test, Waller went in his way and left to sympatize with Upshaw, Ginebra decided to bring in a replacement named Danny Jones, going into their much awaited encounter with the Tony Harris-led Swift, Jones debut with 59 points as Ginebra nip Swift, 146-145 despite Harris' 76 points, the Gins finished the eliminations with a 7-win, 4-loss card.
